Checking and replacing the fuel filter (if necessary)
Fuel filter replacement
Fuel system pressure check
Fuel delivery performance evaluation
Fuel system inspection
The fuel filter is responsible for cleaning fuel before it reaches the engine. Over time it collects contaminants and its flow capacity decreases, which is why in most cases the filter is replaced rather than tested. When necessary we can evaluate its performance using engine management data as well as mechanical testing such as fuel pressure checks. A restricted fuel filter can cause loss of power, unstable engine operation, or starting issues. In New York many vehicle owners postpone replacing the fuel filter because the repair can be expensive, since on some vehicles the fuel tank must be removed to access it. On many modern vehicles the filter is also sold as part of the fuel pump module assembly. However these components are not designed to last forever. Drivers often assume that if the car is still running normally there is no need to replace anything. The problem is that failure can occur suddenly and repairing the fuel system afterward can be much more expensive. For this reason fuel filters should always be replaced according to the recommended service interval.
