Checking the condition of spark plugs and coils
Spark plug inspection
Ignition coil testing
Misfire diagnostics
Ignition system evaluation
Drivers may only notice slight engine vibration, reduced power, or an occasional Check Engine light. In many cases the cause is worn spark plugs or a faulty ignition coil. During this inspection we evaluate spark plug condition, test ignition coil operation, and analyze engine control data to detect misfires. In real-world situations vehicles sometimes continue driving with constant misfires. This disrupts proper combustion and can lead to engine knock or detonation. In severe cases it may even damage a piston, even though the original issue could have been solved by simply replacing a spark plug or ignition coil.
It is also important to note that on many modern vehicles access to ignition coils can be limited. In some cases the intake manifold or other engine components must be removed to reach them. The listed starting price typically applies to simpler setups, such as 4-cylinder engines where spark plugs and coils are easily accessible. For vehicles with more complex engine layouts the final labor cost is calculated individually by our service manager.
