Checking the exhaust system (leaks, integrity)

Drivers may start noticing louder exhaust noise, metallic rattling sounds, or even the smell of exhaust fumes. In many cases this is caused by leaks, rusted exhaust pipes, or damage to the muffler. During this inspection we check the exhaust system for leaks, inspect pipes and connections, and verify that all mounting points are secure. This inspection helps identify damage early. It is also a required part of the New York State vehicle inspection. Licensed inspection stations are required to check the condition of the exhaust system before issuing the official New York State inspection sticker. This ensures the vehicle meets safety and emissions requirements for driving on New York roads.
