In the United States most vehicles are equipped with gasoline engines, which means fewer technicians specialize in diesel engine repair. Diesel engines are built differently and require a more advanced diagnostic approach. They operate with higher compression ratios, high-pressure common rail fuel injection systems, turbochargers with intercoolers, and complex emissions control systems. Modern diesel vehicles often use DPF (diesel particulate filters) and SCR systems that require DEF fluid to reduce emissions. While these systems may look simple on diagrams, diagnosing them in real conditions requires analyzing multiple sensors, system parameters, and live data from the engine control modules. Diesel components are also often more expensive and sometimes take longer to source. For commercial vehicles this is especially important because downtime directly affects business operations and revenue. At FIX SERVICE in Staten Island we diagnose and repair diesel engines and we do not turn this type of work away. However diesel engine service usually requires deeper diagnostics and more time compared to standard gasoline engine repairs.
