When a vehicle's air conditioning stops working many shops simply recharge the system or immediately suggest replacing the compressor. Without proper diagnostics this often does not solve the problem. In our shop we always perform a leak inspection before any A/C recharge. We use a UV leak test with a professional ultraviolet lamp. Most refrigerant dyes and fluids glow under UV light, which allows us to detect even very small leaks. We inspect A/C lines, fittings, service ports, the compressor and the condenser. Even a tiny hole or micro crack that slowly releases refrigerant becomes clearly visible under UV light. This method allows us to locate the exact leak and repair the real cause instead of simply refilling the system.
