Diagnostic fault code check
Before a vehicle goes through New York State Inspection, the inspection data is transmitted directly to DMV servers, which means the OBD-II system must show completed readiness monitors. Before performing the test we first check the monitor status and can then tell the customer whether the vehicle is ready to pass inspection. If diagnostic codes were recently cleared, the battery was disconnected, or engine repairs were performed, some monitors may not be ready. Readiness monitors are self-checks of important systems such as the catalyst, EVAP system, engine management and other emissions components. To complete these checks the vehicle must go through several drive cycles so the system can verify proper operation of sensors and related systems.
