Replacement of rotors brake (discs) and drums

Brake rotors (brake discs) wear over time due to constant friction with the brake pads. As they wear out drivers may notice vibration during braking, steering wheel shake, or longer stopping distances. In New York driving conditions brake rotors tend to wear faster because of heavy traffic and frequent stop-and-go driving. While replacing rotors may look like a simple procedure, proper installation is very important. We often see vehicles that come to us after other repair shops where rotors were installed incorrectly. In some cases the rotors are installed in the wrong direction, or the hub mounting surface is not properly cleaned. If the hub surface is not cleaned from rust and debris the rotor may sit unevenly and cause brake vibration. At FIX SERVICE we always clean the hub mounting surface, check rotor direction, and install the components carefully to ensure proper brake operation. This becomes especially important when OEM brake rotors can cost $400 or more per rotor on some vehicles. Some vehicles also use combined rotor designs that include an internal drum parking brake mechanism, which we also service when necessary.
