Variable valve timing systems such as VVT, VANOS, and similar technologies used by different manufacturers control the precise position of the engine's camshafts. These systems use electromagnetic control valves - commonly called solenoids - to regulate engine oil flow to camshaft phasers installed on the intake and exhaust camshafts. The phasers adjust camshaft position relative to the crankshaft to improve engine power, fuel efficiency, and overall performance. In most cases any work related to the VVT system begins with proper diagnostics. Common symptoms of failure include loss of power, rough idle, camshaft timing fault codes, increased fuel consumption, or abnormal noises from the timing area. It is important to understand that camshaft phasers themselves are part of the engine timing mechanism, and on many engines replacing them may require partial timing system disassembly. However the control solenoids are separate components and in many cases can be replaced without major engine disassembly. At FIX SERVICE we begin with a detailed diagnostic procedure to verify the operation of the camshaft timing system, test the solenoids, check oil pressure, and confirm proper phaser function. Once the fault is confirmed, the necessary solenoids or related components are replaced and the system operation is rechecked
