  • Steering rack boot inspection
  • Alignment recommended after repair

Inner tie rods connect the steering rack to the outer tie rod ends. Compared to replacing outer tie rod ends, access to these components is often more difficult because the inner tie rod sits under the steering rack boot and connects directly to the steering rack. It is important to properly install and seal the steering rack boots to prevent water, dirt, and road salt from entering the rack, especially in New York driving conditions. On some vehicles access to the inner tie rods is limited and partial subframe lowering may be required to properly install the components. In many cases we are able to perform the repair without removing the subframe by using experience and specialized tools, but the exact procedure depends on the vehicle design and configuration. Wheel alignment is usually recommended after this repair.
