Replacing the automatic transmission filter (external/internal)
Automatic transmission filter replacement
Internal and external transmission filter replacement
Transmission fluid service
Transmission pan and magnet inspection
Automatic transmissions constantly circulate transmission fluid through the system. Inside the transmission there are metal components, clutch packs, and other internal parts that naturally create wear over time - metal particles, friction material, and debris. This is why transmissions are equipped with filters that clean the fluid. Depending on the transmission design there may be one, two, or even multiple filters, which can be internal or external. When servicing a transmission it is important not only to replace the fluid but also inspect and replace the filter when necessary. In our experience many customers from Brooklyn and Staten Island tell us that other repair shops changed only the transmission fluid without replacing the filter. This type of service is incomplete because a dirty filter continues circulating contaminants through the system. At FIX SERVICE we always check the transmission filters during service and recommend replacing them together with the transmission fluid when required. The cost of this service depends on the transmission design and filter location.
