Replacing the water pump

The water pump circulates coolant through the engine and radiator to maintain normal engine temperature. Over time the pump may begin leaking, develop bearing noise, or lose efficiency. In some vehicles the pump is belt-driven, while others use an electric water pump. When a pump starts failing the engine can overheat, so proper cooling system inspection is important.
