Restoring wiring after water exposure

Water intrusion in a vehicle can cause serious problems with the electrical system. In our experience water often enters through sunroof drainage channels or body seals and eventually reaches the interior floor area. Moisture can accumulate under the carpets and travel near wiring harnesses, fuse boxes, and electronic modules. We have seen this problem on different vehicles, including Mini Cooper models where clogged sunroof drains may allow water to enter the cabin. In the New York and New Jersey region similar issues can also occur after heavy rain or flooding. Areas such as Manhattan and Lower Manhattan occasionally experience flooding, and vehicles left in standing water even for a short time may develop corrosion in wiring and electrical connections.
